VoIP is a new way of communicating that’s changing how we use office phones forever. With BT looking at replacing all ISDN lines with new technology by 2020, now really is the time to be considering VoIP. So what it is? How does it work? What benefits are there? Here is the final installment of the our simple 3 part beginners guide to VoIP helping you get to grips with this amazing technology

Part 3 – How It Works and How To Make The Switch

How Does It Work?

In order to make a call via the Internet, VoIP converts your voice into digital data and sends it to the other person on the phoner using an Internet connection – all at lightning speed. Your contact doesn’t need to be using VoIP to talk to you, your VoIP phone system can get in touch with people who are using any device, from smartphones to phone boxes, making it one of the most efficient and flexible telephone systems.

Why Is It Better Than Traditional Phone Systems?

Traditional phone lines and systems is the common system at work in most traditional telephones. It’s served us well for decades, but now there’s a far cheaper and much more flexible system available. Unlike traditional phone systems, VoIP doesn’t require costly line rental, is quick and simple to set up and can be very cheap to make calls with.

How To Make The Switch

To switch your traditional phone line to VoIP, simply get in touch with a VoIP provider, like Signal Telecom. All you need is an internet connection good enough to support it (most broadband connections will be fine). VoIP uses your IP to transfer phone call data, which means you don’t need line rental and can make local or international calls for much less and even free.

Your VoIP provider will issue you with a phone number or you can keep your existing one. VoIP phones work in exactly the same way, so you still dial numbers to make calls and people do the same for you. Which means you can also keep a local number, wherever you’re based.
